Explore Tibetan Heritage

The focus of the expedition is education and curiosity for Tibetan culture and the practice of Tibetan medicine. Tibetan International Medical Education Tour (TIME) is a newly established organisation that provides a fully immersive 14 day educational tour that is both theoretical and practical. The tour takes you on a journey exploring the history, philosophy and culture of Tibetan medicine starting in Dharamshala, a Tibetan settlement in Northern India, up through the high passes in the Himalayan mountains and ending in Leh in the state of Ladakh. We will start with a 5 day introductory course at the Men Tsee Khang, the official Institute of Tibetan Medicine, taught by Men Tsee Khang trained doctors and Buddhist monks. Dharamshala is an incredibly beautiful and sacred place, currently the residence of the 14th Dalai Lama and home to a large community of exiled Tibetan people.  Here, you will learn the fundamental principles of the Tibetan system of healing known as the gSoba Rig-pa and the approach to diagnosis including pulse interpretation as well as the basic management of a range of medical conditions. With time to explore the beautiful landscape of Himachal Pradesh, we will visit Tibetan medical clinics, monasteries and palaces and make our way to Zanskar, a rural province in Ladakh. Here, we will spend some time with local Tibetan doctors who have ancestrally acquired knowledge of Tibetan medicine and have the opportunity to forage for medicinal plants and get hands on experience in the preparation of these medicines with local doctors and Tibetan families. The expedition will end in Leh where we will have a day to explore and immerse in the Ladakhi capital.
